GIRLS LOVE GRIDS

Shannon O’Hara, Mia Gribbin, Yu-An Murray

Girls Love Grids brings together the expanded practices of three female artists, Shannon O’Hara, Mia Gribbin and Yu-An Murray, as they pay particular attention to the grid. Here soft forms, craft techniques, textiles and painting are utilised to soften the grid through bodily associations of form, materiality and sensory perception. The grid, often associated with the mechanical and masculine characteristics of minimalism is here reconsidered and softened through an intentional focus on process and corporeality, an approach familiar to a legacy of woman artists such as Agnes Martin or Anni Albers. Girls Love Grids celebrates the endurance of softness in contemporary art as an artistic strategy and investigates feminine methodologies based on materiality, the body and sense perception.
